Here's what nobody told us in our first year in Australia.

Money would feel harder than we expected.

Bills would arrive on rhythms we didn’t recognise. Rent quoted weekly. Pay coming fortnightly. Utilities every quarter. School costs out of nowhere. Medical bills, car rego, insurance excess. All on a calendar that didn’t match anything we’d ever lived before.

Our income would be irregular. My husband’s first, then neither, then mine, then both.

And we would spend our first months quietly stressed, even though we were doing everything we thought we were supposed to do.

If that sounds familiar, please hear this. You are not failing. You are in your first year, in a new system, trying to make sense of money inside a country whose rules you are still learning.

This Workbook is the simple money system we wish we’d had.

  • Money feels harder in Australia than you expected.
  • You want a simple budgeting system without complicated spreadsheets.
  • Your income is weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or irregular.
  • First-year costs keep catching you off guard.
  • You want to feel more organised and less overwhelmed.
  • You’ve been here a few years and still feel like you’re catching up.

You don’t need a perfect budget. You need a simple system you can keep coming back to, one that respects your real life as a new immigrant.

IMMIGRANT BUDGET STARTER WORKBOOK

1. The Immigrant Budget Starter Workbook

Your main guide to building a simple first-money system in Australia. Inside, you’ll learn:

  • Why money feels harder in your first year (and why it’s not your fault).
  • The 4-Category Immigrant Budget Method that works whether you earn $500 or $5,000 a week.
  • How to apply the method to your own real numbers, not generic examples.
  • What to do when life gets messy (because it will).
  • A 7-day plan to get you started without overwhelm.

2. Budget Tools Pack (10 printable worksheets)

Every tool solves a real problem. Use them as you need them, not all at once.

  • Monthly Budget Worksheet. See your full money picture in one page.
  • Irregular Income Worksheet. Apply the method every time money comes in, even if the amount changes.
  • Weekly Check-In Sheet. Stay connected to your money in 10 minutes a week.
  • Emergency Buffer Tracker. Know exactly what you have for surprises and rebuild it after you use it.
  • Enjoyment Money Planner. Spend without guilt, on purpose, inside a category that’s already yours.
  • Future Savings Tracker. Watch even small savings build into something real.
  • First-Year Expense Planner. See the surprise costs coming before they catch you off guard.
  • “Should I Buy This?” Checklist. A 60-second pause that has saved our family hundreds of dollars on impulse purchases.
  • Partner Money Check-In Script. Have calmer money conversations with your partner without it turning into an argument.
  • Bill Calendar. Make every bill visible so timing stress disappears.

3. The 7-Day Action Plan

One small step each day for your first week. By Day 7, you’ll have a working money system, not a stack of unused PDFs.

Why I built this

I’m Pheobe, and I built this Workbook from the version of me that needed it ten years ago.

When my husband and I arrived in Australia, we spent our first year confused about money. He couldn’t find work for the first 12 months. When he did, he lost his job again six months later. I was forced to start working, found a job before he did, and watched the small bit of stability we’d built start to wobble all over again.

We paid off our debt in eight months once we built a real system. We bought our first home in 2020, four years after arrival. Everything changed when we stopped guessing and started using a method.

This Workbook is that method, written for the immigrant family I used to be. I hope it helps yours.

Most budgeting advice assumes you already understand how money works in your country. Australian budgeting advice usually assumes you grew up here.

Real immigrant life is different. Bills are spaced differently. Income arrives differently. First-year costs land all at once, at the worst possible time. The system you grew up with does not transfer.

This Workbook works because it was built specifically for the messy, real, first-year-and-beyond experience of moving money into Australia, not the polished version that exists in spreadsheets.

Instead of trying to track everything perfectly, you’ll learn a simple method that helps you make clearer decisions week by week.

That means less guessing. Less guilt. More structure. More confidence. A calmer starting point.

Inside, you’ll get:

  • The Immigrant Budget Starter Workbook (full guide)
  • The Budget Tools Pack (10 printable worksheets)
  • The 7-Day Action Plan
  • Lifetime access, including any future updates
